Prof. Dr Ram Babu Dhakal
Prof. Dr. Ram Babu Dhakal, currently teaching intellectual property law to students of LL.M. 1st year and BALLB 5 th year international humanitarian law to 5 th year BALLB in the Chakrabarti Law College from 2019. He is a former career foreign service officer of the Government of Nepal who served from 1984 to 2018. During his diplomatic service, he worked in the Embassies and Permanent Missions located in Geneva (1991-1995), Colombo (1996- 1997), New York (2002-2006). He was Deputy Chief of Mission and Deputy Permanent Delegate of Nepal to UNESCO, Embassy of Nepal, Paris from 2012 to 2017. He was elected to the bureaux of UNGA Sixth Committee dealing with legal matters (2004-2005) and Fifth Committee on administrative and budgetary matters (2006) as Vice-Chair. He has represented Nepal in a host of international organizations including ILO, WHO, ITU, WMO, UNCTAD, GATT, WTO and UN Funds and Programs (UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNIFEM). He has extensively worked on SAARC and BIMSTEC and participated in their meetings of senior official level to Foreign Secretary, Foreign Minister levels and the Summits. He has also taken part in the meetings of State Parties of the Rome Statute on International Criminal Court. Prof. Dhakal holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) on Political Science and History (1985), Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) (1986), MPA (1988), LL.M. (2000) from Tribhuvan University of Nepal, LL.M. in USA, 2008, and studied J.S.D. (Ph.D.) in the USA, 2010. He has published various articles on a range of topics including human rights, international law, diplomacy, regional cooperation etc. He also did Specialization in Multilateral Diplomacy in Geneva (1994). He more often appears in different media channels/platforms (TV) talks about the subject matters of public interest. Dr Dhakal as he is a prominent diplomat, author, mentor and researcher, the college is proud to have him as a faculty member.
