She holds an LL.M. in International Human Rights and Criminal Justice from Utrecht University, the Netherlands and Master’s degree (M.Sc) in Environmental Management from Pokhara University, Nepal. Ms. Sumedha Shakya is a dedicated legal academic and seasoned human rights and gender justice expert with over 19 years of professional experience bridging teaching, human rights practice, and development work. She has been engaged as a faculty member at Chakrabarti HaBi Education Academy, Purbanchal University since 2011, where she teaches advanced courses on fair trial in the faculty of criminal justice at the Master’s of Law degree level, fostering critical understanding of human rights standards in criminal justice and mentoring the present and future legal professionals. Alongside her long-standing teaching role, she has worked with UN agencies, international and national organizations, specializing in rule of law, access to justice, gender-based violence and human rights systems strengthening. She has proven track record in policy advocacy, legal analysis, research, programme management and capacity building with government and development partners. Her career uniquely combines academic instruction, applied legal expertise, and capacity-building.
