Prof. Dr Gyan Basnet
Dr Basnet holds a Ph.D and LL.M degree in International Human Rights & Humanitarian Law from Lancaster University Law School U.K. He also holds an LL.M & B.L degrees in Constitutional Law from Faculty of Law, Tribhuvan University Nepal. He is a prominent Nepalese human rights lawyer, outstanding academic, and a well respected public figure. Having published many books and dozens of journal articles in his field of expertise, he is a prolific researcher, academic and subject-matter expert. Dr Basnet is a prominent critic in Nepal' s politics, a profound defender of human rights and social justice and human rights litigator. He is also a political analyst, independent politician and prominent columnist as he writes OP-Eds in national and international English dailies. As a prominent political commentator and political analyst, he frequently appears on national television (FM radios) for debates, talk shows, interviews and news bytes. His words are well valued by the general public. Dr Basnet has been teaching human rights courses for the LL.M degree at the Chakrabarti Law College from its very inception. He is the pillar of academic life in the college. Now as a principal of the establishment, his duties also involve shaping a clear educational vision, fostering a safe and inclusive environment, providing steadfast support to students, staff and creating the best learning environment in the college. Political Involvement: He has been active in Nepal’s political sphere and ran as an independent candidate for the House of Representatives from Kathmandu Constituency No. 9 during the 2023 general election.
